| There are different types of walking safaris you can take part in:
- Full participation mobile camping walking safaris – you carry a share of the equipment and provisions in backpacks. You’re in a small group with an armed professional guide. Usually, you will travel for 2-6 days. Use your bush skills!
- Assisted walking trails - walking between semi-permanent camps. You won’t have to carry your things on your back, but you still have all the excitement of walking in the bush in a small group (up to 6). If you like your creature comforts, this is for you.
- Day walks from a fixed base . Many lodges and camps offer day walks, often starting very early in the morning – to see the game in the most active part of the day. They are flexible and are a great taster.
Walking safaris first became possible in Zambia, and now there are many more destinations where it is possible, including:
- Zambezi Valley – both Zimbabwe and Zambia sides
- Selinda Reserve, Linyanti River area, Botswana
- Luangwa Valley , Zambia
- Kafue National Park , Zambia

- Kruger National Park , South Africa
- Phinda Private Game Reserve, Natal, South Africa
- Nyika Plateau , Malawi
